The middle part of "Echoes" on Meddle by Pink Floyd. Very eerie. :)
I don't know about scary, but Zeppelin's No Quarter used to have an odd effect on me. More depressing than scary perhaps.
I have not heard the music but I have heard tales of people quite literally freaking out to the music off an old album called Exuma by someone called Exuma. I was just reading up on it a bit and from the description there might be something to it. One story I was told, by people that were there, was that a band had been listening to it and then started practicing their set. One of the onlookers freaked and crapped himself because Jumpin' Jack Flash was chasing him down. But then, those were fairly freaky times anyway.
Tubular Bells. I heard this long before I saw The Exorcist so I don't even relate the two. I was doodling the famous riff in a piano class one time and this girl behind me told me to stop it 'cause I was freaking her out so I know some people can't handle it.
Listen to Ignacio by Vangelis. It makes good background music for an illusion show.

letter from my MOM(response to COC)
by purplesofa inpurplesofa, .
thanks for sharing this book with me.
although i'm sure this book is accurate and these things have happened within the governing body, it did happen a long time ago and even the "annoited" are imperfect men.. after alot of thought and prayer i chose to stay a witness- an active witness to my ability which is now limited.

I'd have to agree that just to have your mom read the book is an amazing feat! My mom started reading it several years ago but stopped after a few chapters and somehow got the idea that Franz had started his own church! My mom is just about your mom's age and I bet they think very much alike. I was surprised to hear that your mom has only been a witness since 2000 though. Not much of a history there. My mom has been in some 45 years.
As to being to old to leave the WT...I don't think it's so much age as each person has to have their very own crisis of conscience. Until something affects them personally in a very negative way, they'll likely carry on as always. My mother is in a situation now and I am waiting to see how it plays out. She really has no one to take her to meetings - about an hour away from her home - and she has no business even driving yet she has bought a car with the intent of driving each sunday on dangerous roads to get to the hall.
My opinion is that IF the witnesses are anywhere near the loving, caring folk that they claim, (yeah, right) THEY would make arrangements to see that this elderly lady would be able to get to the meetings. What are the odds that anyone would go out of their way more than a time or two? I think we know the answer to that. Never mind all the times my mom use to drive miles and miles to pick a jw up that needed a ride and do the return trip as well. Doctor's appointments, meetings, conventions...she has always tried to help others if she could (in spite of the WT and most decidely NOT because of the WT). Now it's time for "them" to help her but I'm quite sure they will fail her miserably (they already have more than she knows). So I view this as a test of the WT in some respects to, as they say, put up or shut up! I can only hope she will see it the same way...I'll be there to point it out though.
Sorry for the long tangential comment there but you know how it can be. Anyways, be patient oh Purple One. You never know when the WT will drive a wedge between their own.

Variations on a theme:
Dress up as Jesus and walk calmly to the stage calling them liars and hypocrites as you throw the contribution boxes to the floor. How funny would the pics be of the WT security dragging Jesus out by the arms.
Or, go to one of the assemblies and take notes on a drama. Then, make up some dialog that would go along with their skit. Go to a different convention and at the appropriate time, come down one of the aisles reciting your part. They might think you're just part of the routine.
Monty Python comes to mind. -

Digital Camera Finally busted...Yay !!!
by JH inafter 5 years of service and 17,000 pictures of me, my hewlett packard photosmart 618 finally died.. .
for some reason, even with fresh batteries or even plugged in an ac outlet, it won't turn "on".
looks as if it's the on and off switch problem.

I'm in the market for a new digital camera myself. At the top of the wish list is a high optical zoom. 10+ if possible. I don't even pay attention to digital zoom. I've also been waiting for my current camera to burn out but it just hangs on. I don't take enough pics to warrant a high end camera but I want all those features at a cheap price of course. Always looking for a good deal.

Untolerable, Unheard of and down right Unbelievable experiences
by REBORNAGAIN inhas anyone experienced something really outrageous among the jw's that you want to share?.
we once had a couple of jw's follow us (policeing us) as we were on our way to my (then, he's now my ex) husband's boss's home.
his boss wanted us over for an end of the year party and didn't consider it a christmas party because he knew we didn't celebrate christmas.

Ages ago, these four or five witness guys go to a rock concert and had consumed a fair amount of whiskey. On their way home they stop at a burger joint and still plenty wasted are getting loud and obnoxious - hard to imagine huh? Anyway, the funny part is when one of the guys starts singing at the top of his lungs, "We're Jehovah's Witnesses. We speak out in fear-less-ness..." I'm sure you all know it. :) Soon the whole group were singing loudly while the other customers looked on in horror!
I just find that hilarious. Unbelievably hilarious in fact. :) -

Rate Yourself Regarding Your Personality & Popularity
by minimus inhow would you rate yourself?
do you have a magnetic personality?
does everyone want to invite you to their party??
-

Do you have a magnetic personality? Nope, not since that Degaussing accident.
Does everyone want to invite you to their party?? I can't remember ever being invited to a party. So I'm going to have to go with nope.
Are you a loner? It's turned out that way. People want me around when their computers are broken. That's about it.
Is it hard for you to make friends? What's a fri...frie...friend?
Do you think you'd be greatly missed if you no longer were around??? Only when those computers crash. -

Finally got a call from a case manager. He says they are shipping me a new upgraded computer...in 10 to 14 days. Good Grief. It won't be a Compaq but rather a good ol' comparable HP. whaaaaaaaaa. Whatever, I just want this ordeal over with so I can go on to the next ordeal.
Just wanted to end rant and perhaps kill this thread off. Thanks for the tips/tricks & advice. Sorry for the trouble any of you might be having dealing with this type of thing too...now or in the future.
